The battle for Marawi – A city in ruins

This picture was taken after the battle of Marawi; a five month battle between the Filipino armed forces and the Abu Sayyaf Salafi Jihadist group for the capture of the city of Marawi, located in the Southern islands of the Philippines. The battle ended on 23 October, 2017 and left the city in ruins. Thousands of people were displaced. Recently the city was reopened and this image was taken by Sol Garcia.
