Rodney Gill – The Artist

Music drives my spirit, my soul, my inner being with the most simple but over powering feelings and emotions. Complex music doesn’t really catch me, it’s the simple things that are done in intricate ways that magnetise me, make me feel the seasons and day dream of colours as the ebb and flow takes me on a different journey each time. Playing the guitar for many years has taken me on a great learning and real self discovery path that I am so glad I stuck with for this long and beyond.  When I started playing guitar I was 16 years old with a busted up acoustic that was horrid to play, but I persisted and finally made Sparkling Stellar sound like something someone could say , Hey! I know that song. That was the height of my achievement at 16 and the guitar hiatus from that point on was for a few years. Fast forward and I was given a decent guitar by a friend that wasn’t using it so I took it home and started all over again, passing Sparkling Stellar with ease and moving on to the sounds of Rock N Roll that captured all my attention , even dropping my beloved Rugby League to play the guitar with much opposition from my sports peers , once again I persisted with guitar and the journey began by meeting up with good friends that also persisted with their chosen instruments and our first band and life long friendships started forging into our day to day lives. Solemn Oath , Quorum , Squeeze Box , WYSHBONE and EXILE11 all having the nucleus of 3 members with a moving background of singers and other musicians joining and leaving while the nucleus drove all the bands into different genres , striving and achieving commercial radio play , producing a large budget music video clip and writing , producing , playing our own original music. Having time for my own music is first and foremost now and the creative side of writing , playing and performing my own music is a truly liberating experience where I feel the seasons and daydream of colours as the ebb and flow of my own journey takes over.
